DuaL Degree Programmes

In addition, we offer two BA dual degree programmes (4-year curriculum) in collaboration with two highly respected international universities, namely, Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), France and the University of California, Berkeley, U.S.A. respectively.  You will earn two Bachelor’s degrees upon successful completion of a BA dual degree programme.​​​

How to Apply

Applicants complete the HKU – UC Berkeley Supplemental Application and the standard UC application. Complete information on how to apply to UC Berkeley can be found here.

Please note that the supplemental application is for students who are interested in being considered for the Dual Degree program between the University of California, Berkeley and The University of Hong Kong (HKU). You are required to have first completed the application to the University of California before launching the supplemental application.

Students who have submitted an application to this Dual Degree program will also be considered for the respective bachelor degree at both HKU and Berkeley. No separate application is required except for students completing the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE). Please refer to the information below.

Supplemental Application Essay Question:

In 750 to 1,000 words, describe the motivations that have led you to apply to the Dual Degree program. Explain how and why the multidisciplinary educational environments at The University and Hong Kong (at the Faculty of Arts or Faculty of Social Sciences) and at Berkeley (within the College of Letters & Science) will help you to achieve your intellectual, personal, and professional aspirations. You may also choose to explain how you foresee your involvement in campus life outside of the classroom.

The essay should be written in English.

An online interview with shortlisted candidates will be carried out during the evaluation process.

Special note for Hong Kong students completing the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education: HKDSE students are also required to submit an application for the relevant bachelor degree programme at HKU via JUPAS.

HKU-Sciences Po Dual Degree Programme

Sciences Po is France's leading university in arts and social sciences. With the HKU-SciencesPo Dual Degree programme, you will attain the first of two degrees in multidisciplinary studies with an international focus over two years at Sciences Po.

 

After two years in France, you will then spend the final two years in the thriving business hub of Hong Kong, and earn a second degree at one of Asia’s most sought-after universities. 

​

You'll earn a Bachelor of Arts from Sciences Po and a Bachelor of Arts/Business Administration/Social Sciences from HKU upon successful completion of this four-year programme.

Sciences Po’s multicultural campuses in Reims, Menton, and Le Havre are home to a tight-knit community of students from all over the world. Here, you will spend two years in a multidisciplinary undergraduate programme with an international focus. Courses range from law, economics, and history to political science and sociology plus specialised regional courses:

  • Europe-Asia in Le Havre (courses in English)

  • Europe-Middle East and Mediterranean in Menton (courses in English)

  • Europe-Africa in Reims (courses in English; OR courses in French)

  • Europe-North America in Reims (courses in English)

Programmes at Sciences Po are taught in English; however, you will also have the opportunity to learn the local language through immersive French language classes.

How to Apply

If you wish to apply to the dual degree programme, please submit your application through Sciences Po by 4 March 2025. Be sure to choose the dual degree programme as your first choice! Consideration will be made by both HKU and Sciences Po. Students who are admissible to both Universities will be invited to an interview in May 2025.

If you wish to be considered for HKU regular degrees too, a separate application should be made to HKU apart from the dual degree application. Your application will be considered by HKU only and won’t be affected by the outcome of your dual degree programme application.
